Peacock

There is only one African species of the Congo peafowl. They are terrestrial feeders. All species of peafowl are believed to be polygamous. In Hinduism, the Indian peacock is the mount of the God of war, Lord Kartikeya and the Goddess of Wisdom and arts Goddess Saraswati. During the Medieval period, various types of fowl were consumed as food. This was divided up into a financial pecking order as is today.  The peasants consumed common birds like chicken. However, the more wealthy prided themselves by eating more unusual foods, such as swan, and even peafowl were consumed.
